VirtuaMouse One-Hand gives Pocket PCs a virtual mouse cursor like the Omnia/Epix

Innovisoft Corporation releases the first commercial, publically-available virtual mouse cursor for Windows Mobile, compatible with any Windows Mobile 2003, 5 or 6 device with a D-Pad. Previously, virtual mouse cursors were proprietary and locked to specific devices.

Ottawa, Canada, December 22, 2008 – Devices like the Samsung Omnia and the Epix come with a virtual mouse cursor that can be used to reduce stylus usage and increase the thumb-friendliness of Windows Mobile. However, these mouse cursors are proprietary and can only be used on specific devices that have a built-in optical thumbpad. In response, Innovisoft Corporation has released VirtuaMouse One-Hand v1.0, bringing the benefits of the virtual mouse cursor to any Windows Mobile 2003, 5 or 6 device that has a D-Pad.

Before VirtuaMouse One-Hand, only the owners of a certain small set of Pocket PCs could take advantage of the benefits that come from using a virtual mouse cursor. The usefulness of the mouse cursors found on the Omnia and the Epix have been mentioned in numerous blogs and magazines, making it a desirable feature; but these devices cost hundreds of dollars. VirtuaMouse One-Hand gives all the benefits of the Omnia/Epix mouse cursors to the vast majority of Pocket PCs at a fraction of the cost of such a device.

“Innovisoft takes a slightly different approach to the virtual mouse cursor than the Omnia," said Michael Prendergast, Founder of Innovisoft Corporation. "On the Omnia and the Epix, you can’t switch between D-Pad mode and mouse cursor mode easily -– it’s either one or the other. But we recognize that both the D-Pad and the stylus are still important and are effective means of navigating a Pocket PC. To accommodate for this, VirtuaMouse One-Hand makes it easy to show and hide the cursor with the press of a (hardware) button."

"We believe that virtual mouse cursors should be used as a supplement or an add-on to the stylus and the D-Pad, and that it should be easy to switch between them. VirtuaMouse is meant to give people a choice… to empower end-users and enable them to avoid being forced to use the stylus.”
