VirtuaMouse One-Hand for Pocket PC |
|
VirtuaMouse One-Hand can be used as often or as little as you need to and can truly increase your productivity, if you use it right.
We've written down our best tips to help you start using VirtuaMouse One-Hand as effectively as possible, right from the start.
VirtuaMouse Usage Tips
-
Continue to use the stylus and D-Pad as needed
It's okay (and even expected) for you to switch between the stylus, the D-Pad and VirtuaMouse as needed.
VirtuaMouse isn't meant to be a full stylus replacement, unless your touch-screen is broken -- it's meant to help you use your stylus less often, and to give you an effective alternative for when the stylus isn't convenient for you.
It may be helpful to think of VirtuaMouse as a "use it if it's more convenient" type of program.
Setting a hardware button can make switching between VirtuaMouse and the D-Pad super quick.
-
Set a hardware button for easy show/hide
Setting a hardware button makes it easy to show or hide the virtual mouse pointer anytime. This also makes it more convenient to switch to using the D-Pad/arrow keys whenever you want.
You can set a hardware button by using the "Buttons" tab in the VirtuaMouse Settings program:
- 1. Open "Programs->VirtuaMouse One-Hand"
- 2. Select "VirtuaMouse Settings"
- 3. Click on the "Buttons" tab
- 4. Highlight the button you would like to use with VirtuaMouse
- 5. Press "Assign"
You can also use the Microsoft Buttons program (found in "Settings->Buttons").
-
Consider using the arrow keys when a menu is open
VirtuaMouse has an option to automatically switch to the D-Pad whenever a menu is open.
This can make navigating through menus much quicker than using the cursor.
To enable this option,
- 1. Open the VirtuaMouse Settings program
- 2. Select the "General" tab
- 3. Under "When a menu is open," select "Use Up and Down keys"
Once a menu is open, whenever you press the Up and Down keys, the menu highlighting will select the next item in the menu.
Note: To close an open menu (without selecting anything) press the Left key.
-
Use your thumb with Shell Enhancements (e.g. TouchFLO)
VirtuaMouse is best used where "thumb-friendliness" leaves off: in applications that normally require a stylus.
When a shell enhancement like HTC TouchFLO is showing, it's best to use your thumb. Once the shell enhancement is hidden, and you're in a "not-so-thumb-friendly" program, you can switch to using VirtuaMouse rather than pulling out the stylus.
Side-note: VirtuaMouse isn't meant to replace the shell enhancements or Today screen plug-ins, but VirtuaMouse does make a good add-on to them:
VirtuaMouse can make the "not so thumb-friendly" programs usable with one hand.
